Microsoft says Teams Phone Agent begins rolling out to general availability as of 2026-09-30 (JohnnyMcCormick on the Teams Blog; page updated 2026-10-01): an AI-powered calling receptionist on customer-facing Teams Phone service lines, so callers can say what they need instead of working a phone menu (blog; setup).
This is Microsoft’s Teams Phone receptionist product—not third-party speech-to-text APIs and not avatar roleplay session products.
What GA covers
Microsoft lists these receptionist capabilities as generally available:
- Answer questions grounded in org-configured FAQ files and URLs
- Appointment booking self-service (set up, reschedule, cancel, review via org integrations)
- Route with context — identify specialist or department, transfer the caller, and give the recipient AI-generated conversation notes
- Serve after hours (nights and weekends)
Learn’s setup docs also mark Teams Phone Agent generally available (changelog September 30, 2026). Treat “GA” as Microsoft’s roll-out as stated—Teams Phone licensing, a resource account, and Copilot Credits / spending policy still apply; tenant readiness still depends on those prerequisites (licensing).
Languages
Microsoft says natural conversations across more than 60 supported languages and locales (blog). Automatic Recording transcription still has a known Learn caveat (defaults to English United States regardless of configured language)—so multilingual call handling is not the same claim as perfect multilingual recording STT.
What stays preview
| Surface | Stage |
|---|---|
| Built-in Teams Phone Agent receptionist | GA rolling out (as Microsoft states) |
| Queues app supervisor dashboard integration | Public preview (Queues app users need Teams Premium) |
| Copilot Studio custom voice agents (handoff or direct-dial on Teams Phone) | Frontier / preview — not the same GA claim |
Microsoft bills Teams Phone Agent with usage-based Copilot Credits (duration and capabilities invoked). Custom Copilot Studio voice agents are billed separately under Copilot Studio consumption; preview pricing and availability can change (blog; Copilot Studio integrate).
Who should care
Orgs already on Teams Phone who want an AI receptionist on existing auto-attendant / call-flow lines should start at the Teams Blog GA post—lead with the built-in receptionist GA roll-out, keep 60+ languages as Microsoft states it, and keep Copilot Studio Frontier and the Queues dashboard preview clearly separate.
