Runway App Studio: describe a creative app, and Runway builds, tests and hosts it

Runway App Studio turns a described workflow into a reusable app on Runway's models, billed from existing credits. Sharing rules and what it replaces.

Runway has launched App Studio, announced on X on 26 October. On its product page the pitch is short: “Say what the app should do. App Studio codes, tests and deploys it, with no code, API keys or hosting to manage.”

The idea is to turn a creative process you repeat into a tool. Runway separates it from its existing products this way: its Agent “is built for one-off generation”, while App Studio “packages a prompt, model chain and brand settings into a tool anyone can run again and again”. You can also turn an existing Agent session or Workflow into an app in one click.

What an app can do

Every app gets Runway’s image, video and audio models and your team’s Runway accounts and credits, so there is nothing to connect. Apps can pull from your Brand Kits and references. Runway’s examples include swapping products or characters across 20 markets or SKUs, turning a script into storyboards and previz, and Character Swap, which recasts a source video with a new character from an image or prompt, using a depth-map guided keyframe and ByteDance’s Seedance 2.5. You refine an app in plain language, and you can roll back.

Runway’s older single-purpose Apps (remove an object, upscale video, restyle an image and so on) now live in App Studio “with no action needed”, and you can remix any of them.

Cost and sharing

  • No add-on. “Building, running and hosting draw from the credits you already have.”
  • Private by default. Apps stay private until shared, and “every link requires sign-in”. You can share with teammates or publish a public link; people using a public link run generations on their own credits.
  • Admin control. Workspace admins see usage across every app, and any model you have disabled carries over automatically.

Andy Christoforou of KPF, quoted by Runway, says it lets “every designer in the studio” use the firm’s AI tools, “not just a few specialists”.

The page has no launch date or plan table. Check your own plan’s credit balance before you share an app widely inside a team: every run spends credits.
