OpenCode 2.2.3 can drive Claude Code with your Claude subscription through a new Claude Agent provider

OpenCode's Claude Agent provider runs your local Claude Code login inside OpenCode. Your CLAUDE.md, hooks, MCP servers and skills do not come along.

OpenCode, the open-source terminal coding agent, shipped v2.2.3 on 30 October with a new Claude Agent provider (PR #58782). It lets OpenCode use the Claude models in your Claude subscription by going through Claude Code installed on the same machine, instead of an API key.

How it works

Per the provider docs:

  1. Install Claude Code 2.1.248 or later and sign in with claude auth login.
  2. In OpenCode, run /connect and choose Claude Agent.

Claude receives Claude Code’s system prompt, but OpenCode’s tools and permission rules do the work. Claude Code’s own CLAUDE.md, hooks, MCP servers and skills are not loaded, and /usage, /loop, auto mode and agent teams are not available. On a subscription, OpenCode shows no cost per session.

v2.2.4, released later on 30 October, adds a guided setup: choosing Claude Agent in the provider picker copies claude auth login, points you to install Claude Code and checks the connection before you pick a model.

The terms question

Anthropic’s legal and compliance page says third-party developers may not offer Claude.ai login in their own apps or route requests through Pro, Max or Ultra credentials on their users’ behalf. It also says this does not stop “an end user from signing in to the unmodified Claude Code binary with their own Claude subscription.” OpenCode’s design, where you sign in through Anthropic’s own flow and OpenCode calls the Claude Code you installed, appears built around that carve-out. Anthropic has not commented on it, and the same page says advertised plan limits assume “ordinary, individual usage” and that it may enforce its rules without notice.

Why this matters

Paying for a Claude subscription has meant using Anthropic’s own clients, so this is the first easy way for subscribers to use Claude inside a rival interface. It comes the same day Anthropic renamed Max 20x to Ultra and dropped its 5-hour limit, which makes subscription usage more valuable to tap. Because the arrangement rests on one paragraph Anthropic can change, treat it as a convenience and keep a working API-key or Claude Code setup as a fallback.
