On 6 October 2026 at 07:13 UTC, Tibo (@thsottiaux) posted a note labeled Day 2.1. The syndication record of that post says: “We have made Auto-review free for all users signed in through a ChatGPT account. You can enable it in settings > permissions > auto-review.” It adds that Auto-review improves on the default sandbox setting that requires approval of everything, “which is prone to decision fatigue.” The JSON stops there, ahead of a longer note and an image.
It is day 2 of the series in the day 1 speed note: one clear improvement for most Codex and Work users, or a full reset. Day 1 was the approximate speed change.
What the community thread adds
The OpenAI Developer Community thread for the same series has a Day 2 entry timestamped 6 October 2026, 7:42am on the page, posted by VeitB, next to the same image and a “Source” line. That entry says Auto-review “is now free for everyone signed in with a ChatGPT account” and that you enable it under Settings, Permissions, Auto-review. It says Auto-review “adds a second agent that reviews the primary agent’s actions for you.” It says the job “is limited to stopping high-risk actions and anything that does not match your original request.” The last sentence of that entry: “It also does not count against your plan usage.”
The plan-usage sentence is in that community entry. It is not in the X text the syndication record returned.
What the docs page already said
The Codex docs page Auto-review, opened the same day, already describes a separate reviewer at the sandbox boundary. It says Auto-review “replaces manual approval at the sandbox boundary with a separate reviewer agent,” that the main agent keeps the same sandbox and approval policy, and that the reviewer “decides whether the action should run.” It calls this “a reviewer swap, not a permission grant.” The page does not say the feature is free, and it does not say reviews sit outside plan usage. Tibo’s enable path is the settings screen. The docs also name a config key, approvals_reviewer = "auto_review".
The changelog, as of this check
The Codex changelog, fetched at 13:49 UTC on 6 October 2026, has 5 October as its newest dated entry. An Auto-review heading on that page, “Expanded Auto-review documentation,” is dated 11 May 2026. The page does not contain an entry that Auto-review is now free or that it is excluded from plan usage.
What to do with day 2
Signed in with ChatGPT, Tibo’s post says Auto-review is free and lives under settings, permissions, auto-review. The community thread adds the second agent, the high-risk and off-request stops, and the plan-usage line. The docs page is the reviewer description. The changelog, as of 13:49 UTC, had not recorded the pricing change.
