OpenAI is in talks with investment funds from the United Arab Emirates, including Abu Dhabi’s MGX, to help anchor a $30 billion financing round, according to a Bloomberg account that cites people familiar with the matter. Bloomberg Law published that story at 9:30 PM UTC on 5 October 2026, bylined to Ed Ludlow, Rebecca Torrence, Shirin Ghaffary, and Natasha Mascarenhas of Bloomberg News. The page that opened here includes the lead and then a subscription wall.

The readable Bloomberg Law text says the funds would form a syndicate, that the UAE funds have discussed putting in as much as $10 billion altogether, and that BlackRock is in discussions to participate alongside that syndicate. It says the fundraise is ongoing and the details could change. The people requested anonymity. The visible text stops at that request.

The rest of the copy, still attributed to Bloomberg

Moneycontrol carries the story under a Bloomberg byline, first published 6 October 2026 at 06:58 am India time. Its opening paragraphs match the Bloomberg Law lead, and they continue past the wall.

On the record, that copy says: “OpenAI and BlackRock declined to comment. Representatives for MGX did not respond to requests for comment outside normal business hours.”

The same copy then says OpenAI “is looking to raise at least $30 billion in capital at a valuation of about $1.4 trillion, Bloomberg News has reported,” as the firm pushes an initial public offering to at least next year, citing a focus on AI safety. The phrase “has reported” points at earlier Bloomberg reporting. It is not the same sentence as the 5 October talks.

Later in that copy, people familiar say OpenAI “is presenting its $1.4 trillion pre-money valuation to investors as a set price despite not yet settling on a lead investor.” That pre-money line is in the 5 October story as Moneycontrol carries it. Bloomberg Law’s own page, below the paywall cut, lists a separate article headlined “OpenAI Targets $30 Billion in Funding at $1.4 Trillion Value,” posted 29 September 2026. The body of that 29 September article was not opened here.

TNW attributes the talks to Bloomberg, writes that the valuation “is about $1.4T before the money goes in,” and says “That part is five days old.” Its comment line is shorter than Bloomberg’s: MGX “did not respond,” without the business-hours clause.

The March round, as this copy states it

The same Bloomberg copy says OpenAI last raised $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation, “including the money.” That is the prior round, not a term of the October talks.

What is and is not agreed

No account here says a round has closed. The 5 October report is talks: UAE funds including MGX, as much as $10 billion from those funds, BlackRock beside them, details that could change. The about $1.4 trillion figure is earlier Bloomberg reporting. The pre-money wording is people familiar in the same copy. OpenAI and BlackRock declined comment. MGX did not answer.
