If you keep work in Conductor Cloud, you have until Friday 20 November to get it out. Conductor’s founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced on 4 November that “Conductor is joining Meta,” and the timeline on that page puts the cloud service on a short clock. Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but would not comment further or give details of the deal, so no terms are public.
Conductor is an app for running a team of coding agents in parallel workspaces. TechCrunch notes that the agents are not Conductor’s own but come from labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
The dates
- 4 November: new users can no longer sign up or download the app. Existing free users cannot upgrade to Pro, and Pro users keep Pro features for free.
- 13 November: Conductor Cloud workspaces go read-only. You can still read old chats and export data, but you cannot send new messages. Conductor says active subscribers will get a refund.
- 20 November: Conductor Cloud shuts down. In Conductor’s words: “We begin deleting Conductor Cloud user data. Please export your data before this date.”
What to do now
Conductor has added two ways out, described in the announcement FAQ and the 0.93.0 changelog:
- Move a workspace to your Mac: right-click a cloud workspace and choose Transfer to local. This moves the workspace and its chats.
- Download everything: go to Settings > Account > Export data.
Conductor says it is around to help with the move at [email protected].
What happens to the local app
Holtz wrote that “Conductor will keep working as normal till then, except for Conductor Cloud,” where “then” is the “something new” the team plans to ship “early next year.” The FAQ is more specific: local Conductor “will continue to receive new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027” and “will start winding down in early 2027.” On data, it says Conductor has “never sold or trained on Conductor user data,” and that it will “delete all Conductor user data when the app shuts down in early 2027.”
The same 0.93.0 release still shipped features, including custom completion sounds and GPT-6.1 Terra in the Codex model picker.
Where the team goes
According to TechCrunch, Holtz said on X that he looks forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs. Meta already sells its own coding agent, Muse Code, which we covered when Meta shipped Muse Wonder into it. Conductor has not said what it will build at Meta: “We can’t share much yet.”
It was the second coding-tool deal by a frontier lab on 4 November. The same day, OpenAI said it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, whose Trees and Diffs libraries already run in the Codex app.
Why this matters
If you run agents in Conductor Cloud, 13 November is the last day to send them new work and 20 November is when deletion begins, so transfer workspaces to local or export now. The local Mac app buys you time only until early 2027, which makes this a good moment to plan where your parallel-agent setup lives next. The core pattern does not depend on any one app: giving each agent its own isolated checkout is something you can set up yourself, as in our guide to giving each coding agent its own git worktree.
