Apple adds an assistant built on Apple models and OpenAI to Keynote, Pages and Numbers, plus MCP for outside agents

Apple's November Creator Studio update brings a beta assistant to iWork and Logic Pro, and MCP support so external AI agents can read and edit documents.

Apple’s subscription bundle of creative apps, Apple Creator Studio, is getting its biggest AI update so far. Apple’s 27 October release says it arrives on the App Store “this November as a free update for existing subscribers”. The bundle costs $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the US.

An assistant built with OpenAI

Keynote, Pages and Numbers each get “an intelligent assistant, built on Apple models and OpenAI” that understands the open document. In Keynote it helps design, animate and refine slides, in Pages it drafts and restructures text, and in Numbers it calculates, builds charts and organizes data. Logic Pro for Mac gets a beta assistant “powered by a combination of Apple-built models and OpenAI” that can, for example, set up a vocal track from one prompt.

Apple does not say which OpenAI models are involved or how requests are routed between Apple’s models and OpenAI. If that matters for your documents, our explainer on where an Apple Intelligence request goes covers the questions to ask.

The footnotes set the limits. The iWork assistant is a beta that needs an Apple Intelligence-capable device on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27, and is U.S. English only. The Logic Pro assistant needs macOS 27 and is also U.S. English only.

MCP: outside agents can drive iWork

The part developers will care about: Keynote, Pages and Numbers add Model Context Protocol (MCP) support. In Apple’s words it “enables external AI agents and tools to read content, perform edits, and execute automated actions directly in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers”. That needs macOS 27 or later.

In practice, an agent you already use on the Mac could open a spreadsheet, fill a table or update a deck without screen-scraping. Apple has not yet published a tool list or permission model in the release, so check what the server exposes before wiring it to an agent that also reads untrusted content.

Keynote also adds the Keynote Interchange Format (.keyx), which Apple describes as “an open JSON-based bundle file format” readable by external tools and AI agents.

Also in the update

  • Pixelmator Pro gets Generate Fill: circle an area and describe the change.
  • Final Cut Pro gets built-in MotionVFX effects and text-to-image generation inside a project.
  • Logic Pro gets drum separation in Stem Splitter and an on-device “music understanding” tool that tags your sound library.
